Create Your Own Practice Application

Page history last edited by Jeffrey Hamilton 15 years ago

You can easily create your own online application for patrons to practice completing.  This can be a low stress way for those not familiar with online job applications to:

  • gather the most common information asked for in applications
  • practice using text boxes, radio buttons, check boxes, etc.
  • look for error messages
  • correct mistakes

In this example, we'll create an online application in just a few minutes using Google Docs.

  1. Go to http://docs.google.com
  2. Log in to your account (if you don't have a Google account, you can easily create one by clicking the Get Started button and completing the short form)
  3. On the Google Docs page, click the New tab at the top and then click From template
  4. Click the Forms link at the top
  5. Scroll through the list; near the bottom of the page click the Use this template button for the Basic Employment Application
  6. In the Edit form window you may customize the form if you wish or use as is (in this example, only the title and description fields at the top were modified)
  7. After making your changes, click the Save button at the upper right

Now that the application is ready, there are two ways for you to provide access to the public:

  • Use the link for the form located at the bottom of the Edit form window
  • Embed the form on your website
    • In the Edit form window, click the More actions button at the upper right and then click Embed
    • Copy the code in the Embed window and then paste into your website
